Levajok Mountain Inn has
housed and served many salmon fishermen and travelers for more than 100
years. Until 1962, the Mountain Inns was run by government as one of the
Government Mountain Inn in Norway. They were built to meet the
accommodation needs for carrying mail and goods across the mountain
plateau. |
|
|
In 1962, Ivar
Hauge bought this Mountain Inn. He saw numerous opportunities to expand
the company and developed the place into a popular salmon fishing
paradise. Salmon lords and other tourists from all over the world found
the way to this pearl in the middle of wilderness.
In 1972, Anne
Margaret Krogh (Molle) started Levajok Riding School. Her pioneering
activities led to that Levajok is currently defined as the cradle of the
horseback riding in Finnmark. At the same time, Levajok Mountain Inn
started the popular summer camps for children and youth, which still run
as riding camps. |
